»Ohio State Fair 2015«

The Ohio State Fair is running through the end of this week – August 9. I entered 3 quilts in the fair this year. I like entering quilt shows because it gives me a deadline to complete a quilt from beginning to end. It is also helpful to get feedback from the judge(s) on ways to improve my quilts.

I entered my Hexi, Any Direction, and Great Granny Squared quilts. Guidelines for this show state that the quilts cannot be more than 2 years old. Both the Great Granny Squared and Any Direction were made this year. The Hexi quilt was made and completed 1 year ago.

My Great Granny Squared won a Blue Ribbon in the Full Size Category!

If you are close to Columbus, OH and can make it to the fair, you will be in for a visual treat – and maybe a yummy treat like funnel cake 😋.

I’ve always been a doodler and loved art from an early age. I picked up my first fabric, a pink and white checked gingham, at 9 years old and cross-stitched my name. In 1996, my mom started quilting and her inspiration motivated me to make my first quilt in 1998. I found a pattern in a book from the library, changed the colors to make a Christmas quilt and pieced it together. I even quilted and bound it! I enjoy working with all kinds of fabric mediums and threads. I enjoy sewing with my machine and doing handwork. I get inspiration from my life including people, scenery, patterns and objects around me. Follow me here and on Instagram @lesleystorts.

  1. Congratulations! It is a real kick to win a ribbon, and I think more of a joy to see one’s quilts hanging in a show.
